What’s Invisalign?

Invisalign Provider Logo

Invisalign® is an alternative to traditional braces that moves your teeth using clear plastic aligners instead of metal brackets and wires. The plastic aligners are like sturdier versions of teeth whitening trays that you just slip over your teeth. We design the aligners in a precise sequence by a computer to move your teeth through a series of steps to achieve the beautiful straight smile you desire.

Invisalign can work much faster than traditional braces and the best part—the treatment is nearly invisible.

Frequently Asked Questions

Invisalign is one of the easiest cosmetic dentistry treatments you can get! To start the process, you will meet with one of our Irvine Invisalign dentists, Dr. Taylor or Scott Rice for a consultation. During your visit, they will take digital photos of your teeth and use our iTero digital scanner to take precise, fast 3D images and impressions of your teeth. Then, using Invisalign’s advanced software, we will map out your precise treatment plan including exact teeth movements, and complete treatment time. We will even show you what your teeth will look like at the end of treatment! If you like what you see, you can choose to start treatment.

Our method allows you to get the smile you always wanted faster than most Invisalign providers. We know how to efficiently move teeth. Our extensive background in treating and managing bite and jaw joint problems gives you confidence in knowing the results will be comfortable and long-lasting.

Our Invisalign method is different in our office.

  1. We think about your smile first.
  2. Then we think about making your teeth straight,
  3. Then we think about making your teeth fit together properly./li>

This third dimension of a great smile is what most patients come to our office for, and that is why we have such success with Invisalign because not only do we leave you with healthy teeth but a great smile.

Most patients are excellent candidates for Invisalign. If your problems are too severe, however, Invisalign might not be the best option for you. We will let you know if Invisalign can address your problems during your consultation.

Some of the problems Invisalign can address:

  • Gapped teeth
  • Crowded teeth
  • Crooked teeth
  • Protruding teeth
  • Misaligned bites
  • Gummy smiles

At Rice Dentistry we only provide Invisalign to adult patients. Adults considering Invisalign should be committed to wearing their trays for at least 22 hours per day and retainers after completing their treatment. Compliance is essential to achieve and maintain your desired results with Invisalign.

Before your treatment, it’s important to understand the six A’s of Invisalign.

1. Aligners

To achieve your desired results, you must wear your aligners for at least 22 hours per day and never go more than an hour without wearing your aligners.

2. Attachments

We will attach small tooth-colored shapes to your teeth to help grab the aligners and position the teeth.

3. Adjustments

If you have crowded teeth, we may remove a small amount of tooth structure to create more room and expedite movement.

4. Additional Aligners

After completing your first set of aligners, if your teeth are not in their desired position, we may add additional aligners to your treatment. These are known as over-correction aligners and they are included in your case fee.

5. After

After completing treatment, you will need to wear retainers 22 hours per day for the first three to six months and then every night afterward.

6. Along the Way

Continue your regular oral hygiene routine to ensure your teeth move along correctly, prevent cavities and gum disease, and protect the jaw bone during treatment.

Yes! Retainers are incredibly important regardless of what type of orthodontic treatment you get. After completing your Invisalign treatment, you will need to wear your retainers for 22 hours per day typically for the next three to six months. It depends on your specific case.

After three to six months, you will wear your retainer every night for the next year.

After a year, you should continue to wear your retainer three to five times per week for the rest of your life.

Without wearing your retainers, your teeth can begin to slowly shift out of their new position. We recommend replacing your retainer every year to ensure your smile continues to look great! We can even create several retainers in advance so you don’t have to worry about wearing them out, breaking them, or losing them—it also saves money! Our Irvine dental office offers Vivera retainers from Invisalign which look and fit similarly to Invisalign aligners. You’re provided with a set of four clear plastic aligners.
