Dr. Scott Rice is happy to announce that he recently moved from being a Mentor at the Kois Center (a prestigious dental clinical program) to Clinical Instructor. There are only 79 Kois Instructors on earth, so this is an outstanding achievement! Dr. Rice has become an integral part of the Kois Center and can now serve as an instructor for Kois Courses.

Three Great Dentists

With this honor, Dr. Scott Rice solidifies his place as one of the leaders in modern dentistry. But he’s just one of the great dentists that we have at Rice Dentistry. Dr. Nicolas A. Ravon is a board-certified periodontist who has also been recognized as a Mentor at the Kois Center. Dr. Taylor Rice has been attending classes at the Kois Center since graduating from dental school, and will graduate in 2017.

Each of these dentists brings their own unique perspective, talents, and experience to the practice, but what they all share is a belief that great education leads to great results for our patients–and that’s what really matters to us. About the Kois Center

Based in Seattle, Washington, the Kois Center is a didactic and clinical program featuring a comprehensive Kois course curriculum of nine courses, with the latest advances in esthetics, implant and restorative dentistry. The program is based upon Dr. John C. Kois’ mission statement: “Enabling motivated dentists to achieve extraordinary levels, expanding knowledge and application skills in restorative dentistry.” The motto for the Kois Center program is “Advancing Dentistry Through Science.”

Who attends the Kois Center?

Attendance to the Kois Center is open to all dental professionals: general dentists, specialists, laboratory technicians and dental staff. Here are some common characteristics among the professionals who find the Kois Center to be the right “fit” for their educational needs and professional development ambitions:

  • Enjoys learning how to make complex things more simple
  • Looking for a non-intimidating atmosphere to learn

While attendance is open to all dental professionals, only elite members of the program advance to Mentor, then Clinical Instructor.

Criteria for becoming a Clinical Instructor

According to the official Kois Center website, here is the criteria for becoming a Clinical Instructor:

  • Kois Center Mentor (completed and passed the Mentor Exam)
  • Attendance at the Annual Kois Center Symposiums at least two times
  • Attendance as a Mentor in a Kois Course at least three times
  • Selected through a nomination and evaluation process
  • Factors Considered: Recommendations, Course Evaluations, Committee Involvement, Commitment, Support and Involvement at the Center, Desire to Teach and Provide Leadership
  • Nomination: Provided by Kois Center and submitted to Advisory Board for Evaluation. Kois Center writes a letter of recommendation for the candidate and submits to Advisory Board along with all supporting documentation.
  • Approval: Advisory Board makes final selection annually
