There are many reasons why people dislike orthodontic treatment, such as the length of time it takes for treatment, and the discomfort that can come with moving your teeth.

Fortunately, Acceledent has been proven to cut down the time necessary for orthodontics by as much as 50 percent. And now a new study shows that it can also decrease discomfort related to orthodontic treatment.

A Randomized Clinical Trial

The new study, published in the journal Angle Orthodontist, is a randomized clinical trial, often considered the gold standard of medical evidence. For this trial. 58 orthodontic patients were randomly assigned to either receive traditional orthodontic treatment (controls) or to get treatment accompanied by Acceledent.

The trial was run for four months. Every month, patients visited their dentists for adjustment of their braces. Patients were asked to record their pain levels each day for the first week after adjustment and once a week for the rest of the month. Patients in the treatment group used Acceledent for the recommended 20 minutes a day.

Researchers found that total discomfort and discomfort while biting were significantly lower in the group with Acceledent.

Michael K. Lowe, president and CEO of OrthoAccel, which manufactures Acceledent, said that the results confirmed what many patients had long been telling them, that the device isn’t just good at speeding orthodontic treatment, it makes treatment more comfortable.

Researchers noted that one advantage of reduced pain associated with Acceledent was that orthodontic patients, often children and teens, needed fewer doses of pain medication to control discomfort related to their orthodontic treatment. This is beneficial because even over-the-counter pain medications come with risks.

Orthodontics Faster and Better

If you are wanting to straighten your teeth, but just wish it could be done faster, with less discomfort, then Acceledent can help you.

Acceledent is easy and convenient to use. Simply bite down firmly on the mouthpiece and turn it on. The pressure of your teeth will hold the device in place as it delivers stimulating vibrations to your teeth. These vibrations mimic the normal biting and chewing actions that drive bone remodeling in your teeth. Your hands are free to do other things as you wait for the 20 minutes you’re supposed to use the device, so it won’t interfere with your daily routine.
