How BioClear Works on Black Triangles
BioClear is a dramatic advancement in the way we approach dental composite restorations, utilizing flowable composites that have the texture of a thick liquid rather than a paste.
The BioClear veneers technique begins with thin clear mylar sheets that are used to wrap around the teeth, providing the mold for the new tooth. These can slip under the gum line, so the restoration can be uniform all the way down below the visual portion of the tooth. This is what makes BioClear veneers such a great treatment for black triangles along the gum line–they can fill in the base of the tooth as easily as the top.
Once we’ve achieved the shape we want for your teeth, we inject the liquid composite into the mold we’ve made with the mylar sheets. This is heated so that it can flow properly, ensuring there are no voids or gaps on the inside of the material. Although it’s hot, it isn’t damaging to your tooth or painful to the nerve because the composite doesn’t transmit heat well. It’s like its own insulator.
The resin cools, cures, and hardens. Then we perform some final shaping to remove the “tails” of injection material and folded mylar. Not as much polishing is necessary because the injection of flowable composites creates the smooth, shiny surface we want.
