The AcceleDent Aura device allows us to move your teeth faster using tiny vibrations. It is composed of two parts, an activator, which generates vibrations, and a mouthpiece, which you bite down on to convey those vibrations to your teeth.
Orthodontics works by applying steady force to your teeth. This steady force, augmented by your normal biting, chewing, and clenching motions, stimulates your bone, releasing osteoclasts, cells that break down bone in some places where the tooth is pressing up against the bone. It also stimulates the periodontal ligament, the tough, stretchy tissue that holds the tooth in place, causing it to release osteoblasts, special cells that build bone in areas where the ligament is being stretched.
AcceleDent Aura works by applying vibrational force to your teeth. The vibrating unit attaches to a mouthpiece. You bite down on the mouthpiece, which then conveys the vibrating energy into your teeth. These vibrations, like the normal biting, chewing, and clenching motions, stimulate your bone. Wearing the AcceleDent Aura is like getting a workout for your bones. Just like working out helps you build more muscle faster, AcceleDent Aura helps you build more bone faster.
Safe & Gentle
Some may worry that speeding up orthodontic work could be damaging to your teeth. After all, that’s why people are discouraged from moving through Invisalign aligners faster–it doesn’t give enough time for the bone to remodel and stabilize.
But clinical studies have shown that the AcceleDent Aura is safe for moving teeth. It doesn’t cause complications related to the movement of bones or teeth. It uses technology that has previously been approved for use in treating osteoporosis, so it has been proven to help build bone. And it has been cleared to help with with orthodontic movements.
The safety of AcceleDent Aura is partly related to its gentle approach. It’s much slower than an electric toothbrush, and applies about ⅛ the force. In fact, this gentle approach can actually improve the orthodontic experience, reducing discomfort.
But if we can consider the metaphor of a workout again, it is possible to work out too much. That’s why you’re not allowed to use AcceleDent Aura for more than 20 minutes a day.
